Post City Hall's still pushing LRT to replace the SRT
Ford vs. Miller: subways or streetcars.

Toronto is moving ahead with an environmental assessment on refurbishing the aging Scarborough Rapid Transit line, even though the province has delayed funding for it and other Transit City lines.

Council voted Tuesday to proceed with a staff review of the options, including converting the existing line so it can accommodate Transit City light rail vehicles, extending the line to Malvern Town Centre and building an underground connection to Kennedy Station.

“I’m going to keep fighting,” Mayor David Miller said, to get the province to reverse its decision to delay $4 billion of its promised Transit City funding. “Scarborough needs this transit.”

Councillor Rob Ford (Ward 2, Etobicoke North), who is running to replace Miller, pooh-poohed the motion, saying Scarborough residents he has talked to don’t want streetcar-like light rail. “They want subways and more subways.”

It's interesting to see how they are playing a Scarborough card. It seems like it's more important (for the elections) than the DRL. In this elections nobody cares about the DRL 'cause it wont bring more votes. Probably the DRL will become a hot topic after elections. Will see.
